Consumer Price Index, July 2017

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.2% on a year-over-year basis in July, following a 1.0% increase in June. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI was up 0.2% in July, after posting no change in June.

Retail Services Price Index, first quarter 2017

The Retail Services Price Index (RSPI) advanced 0.8% in the first quarter, with 8 of 10 major retail subsectors posting margin gains. This increase marked a rebound from the large margin decline recorded in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The Wholesale Services Price Index (WSPI) was up 2.3% in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter. This was the sixth consecutive quarterly gain. Of the eight subsectors, five were up and three were down.

Travel between Canada and other countries, June 2017

As the country readied for its 150th birthday celebrations, the number of trips to Canada by residents of overseas countries continued its upward climb in June, while the number of US residents travelling to Canada rose to its highest total for the month of June in 10 years. Meanwhile, the numbers of Canadians returning home from trips to overseas countries and from trips to the United States by plane reached new highs for the month.
