Labour Force Survey, November 2024
Employment increased by 51,000 (+0.2%) in November and the employment rate held steady at 60.6%. The unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points to 6.8%, as more people looked for work.
Activities of multinational enterprises in Canada and abroad, 2022 (actual) and 2023 (preliminary)
In 2023, foreign and Canadian multinational enterprises in Canada employed 5.10 million people and traded $1.2 trillion worth of goods internationally. Meanwhile, Canadian majority-owned affiliates abroad registered their highest levels of employment (2.04 million) and assets ($8.2 trillion) to date.
Securities statistics, third quarter 2024
Net borrowings by Canadian corporations and governments in the form of debt securities totalled $73.1 billion in the third quarter, up from $16.8 billion in the previous quarter. The financing activity in the third quarter was led by the government sector, followed by non-financial corporations.
Retail Commodity Survey, September 2024
Retail sales reached $65.7 billion in September, a decrease of 2.2% compared with the same month one year earlier. Lower sales were reported in 12 of the 18 commodity classes.
Farm Product Price Index, September 2024
The Farm Product Price Index (FPPI) fell 5.9% in September compared with the same month one year earlier. The drop in the crops index was behind the FPPI decline, as it more than offset the gain in the livestock and animal products index.
