Canada’s international transactions in securities, December 2023
Canadian investors acquired an unprecedented $29.4 billion of foreign securities in December, led by a record investment in foreign shares. Meanwhile, foreign investment in Canadian securities totalled $10.4 billion, mainly in debt instruments.
Non-bank financial intermediation, 2007 to 2022
Non-bank financial intermediation is defined as financial intermediation activities, such as lending, that are outside the traditional, regulated financial system where oversight and risk assessment are well established. This release focuses on non-bank credit intermediaries (NBCIs), a subset of non-bank financial intermediaries which encompasses mortgage investment corporations (MICs), mortgage finance corporations (MFCs), consumer and business transportation leasing companies, other leasing companies, and finance companies.
Wholesale trade, December 2023
Wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) grew 0.3% to $82.9 billion in December.
Fruit and vegetable production, 2023
Fruit and vegetable farm-gate sales fell by 1.0% from 2022 to $2.9 billion in 2023, largely because of lower fruit sales (-4.1%), which offset an increase in vegetable sales (+1.8%). Harvested area decreased by 2.3% to 186 003 hectares in 2023.
