Consumer Price Index, June 2017
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.0% on a year-over-year basis in June, following a 1.3% increase in May. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI was unchanged in June, after being down 0.2% in May.
Retail trade, May 2017
Retail sales increased for the third consecutive month, rising 0.6% to $48.9 billion in May. Sales were up in 5 of 11 subsectors, representing 56% of total retail trade.
Investment in new housing construction, May 2017
New housing construction investment totalled $4.4 billion in May, up 4.1% from May 2016. This increase was mostly explained by higher investment in Ontario and, to a lesser extent, in British Columbia and Manitoba. Of the four provinces that posted a decline, Quebec’s decrease was the largest.
Pension plans in Canada, As of January 1, 2016
Membership in registered pension plans (RPPs) in Canada totalled 6,262,000 in 2015, up 4,900 members compared with 2014.
