Labour Force Survey, February 2025
Employment was virtually unchanged in February (+1,100; +0.0%) and the employment rate held steady at 61.1%. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.6%.
Control and sale of alcoholic beverages and cannabis, April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024
Federal and provincial government earnings from the control and sale of alcohol and recreational cannabis in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, rose 1.1% from a year earlier to $15.7 billion. Sales of beer, wine, and spirits fell compared with a year earlier, while sales of ciders, coolers, and cannabis increased.
Natural Gas Financial Survey, 2023
In 2023, Canada’s natural gas distribution and transport pipeline industry posted decreases to operating revenues and expenses. Following a record high in 2022, prices for marketable natural gas experienced a decrease of 28.8% in 2023, contributing to the decline in revenue. However, production in 2023 saw its third consecutive year-over-year gain and reached its highest level. According to supply and disposition of natural gas data, marketable natural gas production rose 2.9% to 7.8 million terajoules in 2023.
Industrial capacity utilization rates, fourth quarter 2024
Canadian industries operated at 79.8% of their production capacity in the fourth quarter, up from a rate of 79.4% in the third quarter, which was revised slightly higher.
Retail Commodity Survey, December 2024
Retail sales reached $71.6 billion in December, an increase of 3.7% compared with the same month one year earlier. Higher sales were reported in 14 of the 18 commodity classes.
