Retail trade, March 2024
Retail sales decreased 0.2% to $66.4 billion in March. Sales were down in seven of nine subsectors and were led by decreases at furniture, home furnishings, electronics and appliances retailers (-1.6%).
Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, first quarter 2024
Canadian corporations reported an increase of $898 million (+0.6%) in net income before taxes in the first quarter of 2024, reaching $160.1 billion. This gain was driven by the financial sector (+4.9%) and was partially offset by the non-financial sector (-1.2%).

National Travel Survey, fourth quarter 2023
For the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, both Canadian-resident trips and expenses exceeded those recorded in 2019. During the fourth quarter of 2023, Canadian residents took 74.6 million trips, up 7.1 million from the same quarter of 2022 (67.6 million). Most (88.3%) of the fourth quarter of 2023 trips were domestic. Canadian residents spent $14.6 billion on domestic travel and $11.1 billion on travel outside the country.
Visitor Travel Survey, fourth quarter 2023
In the fourth quarter, visitors from the United States and overseas countries made 5.7 million trips to Canada, representing 88.3% of the number of trips taken in the same quarter of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. From October to December 2023, more than three-quarters (77.4%) of these trips were made by US residents.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, April 2024
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for April. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales increased 1.2% in April. The largest increase was in the transportation equipment subsector.
