Foreign direct investment, 2023
Canada’s net direct investment position with the rest of the world reached $811.0 billion at the end of 2023, up $86.4 billion from 2022, as growth of Canadian direct investment abroad continued to outpace growth of foreign direct investment in Canada.
Energy statistics, February 2024
On a year-over-year basis, primary energy production increased 2.6% in February to 1.9 million terajoules, while secondary energy increased 1.3% to 0.4 million terajoules.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, January 2024
In January, the business closure rate contracted 0.2 percentage points to 4.6%, a rate corresponding to the 2015-to-2019 historical average, following an increase of 0.3 percentage points in December 2023. The business opening rate edged down 0.1 percentage points to 4.6% in January 2024 after holding steady at 4.7% from August to December 2023. In January 2024, the business opening rate was slightly below its historical average of 4.7%.
Screened passenger traffic at Canadian airports, March 2024
In March, 4.5 million passengers passed through pre-board security screening at checkpoints operated at Canada’s eight largest airports, an increase of 6.2% from March 2023.
