More Canadians commuting in 2024
The number of commuters reached 16.5 million in May 2024, continuing an upward trend that followed notable declines recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, May 2024
In May, the business opening rate contracted by 0.2 percentage points to 4.5%. The business closure rate edged up 0.1 percentage points to 4.7%, after holding steady at 4.6% since January. In May, the opening rate was 0.2 percentage points below its 2015-to-2019 historical average, while the closure rate was 0.1 percentage points above its historical average.

Social Policy Simulation Database and Model, version 30.2
The Social Policy Simulation Database and Model (SPSD/M), version 30.2, is now available. This model update incorporates changes to income taxes and government transfers that were announced prior to July 1, 2024. It is based on 2018 data and can be used to study the effects of changes to federal and provincial tax and benefit programs on families and governments from 1997 through 2028.
