Production of principal field crops, November 2023

Canadian farmers reported producing more corn for grain and soybeans, but less wheat, canola, barley, and oats in 2023. Lower production for most crops was driven largely by lower yields, especially in Western Canada where growing conditions were generally drier than in 2022.

A growing share of women are among the ranks of the self-employed. In 2022, women represented 37% of all Canadians who worked independently to operate a business or professional activities or who were unpaid family workers. This was up from 26% in 1976.

Trafficking in persons in Canada, 2022

Nearly 4,000 incidents of human trafficking were reported by police services in Canada from 2012 to 2022, accounting for 0.02% of all police-reported crime during this time and representing an average annual rate of 1.0 incident per 100,000 population. Human trafficking is a gendered crime—the vast majority of victims are women and girls.
