Canadian Survey on Business Conditions, second quarter 2024
Labour- and cost-related challenges remain the top obstacles businesses anticipate in the second quarter. While the proportion of businesses expecting cost-related obstacles has continued to ease since the previous quarter, the proportion expecting labour-related obstacles has risen.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, February 2024
In February, the business opening rate declined by 0.2 percentage points to 4.5%, following a 0.1 percentage point contraction in January. The opening rate in February was 0.2 percentage points below its 2015-to-2019 historical average of 4.7%. The closure rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 4.7% in February, after a decline of 0.2 percentage points in January. For February, the closure rate was just above its historical average of 4.6%.

The Machinery and Equipment Price Index (2016=100) is now available for the first quarter.
Wholesale trade: Early indicator, April 2024
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for April. The advance results for April indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and oilseed and grain) rose 2.8%. The increase reflects higher sales in the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories subsector.
