Canadian international merchandise trade, October 2024
In October, Canada’s merchandise exports increased 1.1% and imports rose 0.5%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from $1.3 billion in September to $924 million in October.
Production of principal field crops, November 2024
Canadian farmers reported growing more wheat, oats, soybeans, dry peas and lentils, but less canola, corn for grain and barley in 2024. In general, yields were higher this year compared with 2023. However, there were some areas, particularly in Western Canada, where farmers continued to face issues related to dry conditions.
Canadian potato production, 2024
Canadian growers harvested a fourth consecutive record potato crop in 2024, as production rose 0.3% year over year in 2024 to 127.0 million hundredweight due to an increase in harvested area. New Brunswick (+14.3% to 17.0 million hundredweight) and Quebec (+17.5% to 13.7 million hundredweight) recorded the largest increases in production, as these provinces recovered from wet growing conditions in 2023. Alberta produced 23.7% of Canadian potatoes in 2024, maintaining its position as the largest potato producer in Canada, followed by Manitoba (21.6%) and Prince Edward Island (20.4%).
Canadian international trade in services, October 2024
Canada’s monthly international trade in services balance went from a surplus of $0.2 billion in September to a small deficit of $0.1 billion in October. Overall, imports of services increased 2.0% to $18.4 billion, and exports of services were up 0.7% to $18.3 billion.
A profile of Indigenous journeypersons in Canada, 2010 to 2020
From 2010 to 2020, Indigenous journeymen earned a higher median income compared with non-Indigenous journeymen, and Indigenous journeywomen earned nearly 2.5 times less, on average, than their male counterparts. Journeypersons are individuals who have completed an apprenticeship program, or trade qualifiers who have earned a certificate of qualification.

Lumber production increased 4.7% from August to 3 951.2 thousand cubic metres in September. Production was down 5.9% from September 2023.
