Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, May 2024
The number of employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employment” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—increased by 41,000 (+0.2%) in May.
Quality of employment, 2023
Today, Statistics Canada has released an update to its Quality of Employment in Canada publication. New articles entitled “Multiple jobholders, 2023,” “Own-account worker rate, 2023,” and “Long working hours, 2023,” are now available, featuring recent data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) and more detailed insights on the employment situation of racialized groups. An article on a new employabilty indicator entitled ”Employability, 2023″ was also released for the first time, based on data from the November 2023 LFS supplement.
Police-reported crime statistics in Canada, 2023
The police-reported Crime Severity Index (CSI) increased 2% in 2023. This was the third consecutive annual increase in the CSI, continuing an upward trend that began prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Non-violent CSI increased, while the Violent CSI was essentially unchanged from 2022.
Aircraft movement and civil aviation statistics, May 2024
In May, Canada’s major and select small airports recorded a total of 544,313 aircraft movements, down 1.6% from May 2023. Itinerant movements decreased 2.2% year over year to 373,928, while local movements declined 0.5% to 170,385.
Deliveries of major grains, June 2024
Data on major grain deliveries are now available for June.
Oilseed crushing statistics, June 2024
Oilseed processors crushed 776 354 tonnes of canola in June. Oil production totalled 334 909 tonnes, while meal production totalled 447 433 tonnes.
Milled wheat and wheat flour produced, June 2024
Millers milled 261 677 tonnes of wheat in June, while wheat flour production totalled 191 722 tonnes.
