Canadian international merchandise trade, January 2025
In January, in the context of tariff threats on Canadian goods, Canada’s merchandise exports increased 5.5% while imports were up 2.3%. Canada’s merchandise trade surplus with the world widened from a revised $1.7 billion in December to $4.0 billion in January. This was the largest surplus since May 2022.

In Canadian international merchandise trade statistics, import and export data are available by partner country to provide insight into the countries with which Canada trades. Today, the introduction of two new data tables offers more direct insight into country attributions in these trade statistics.
Canadian international trade in services, January 2025
Canada’s monthly international trade in services deficit widened to $0.8 billion in January. Overall, exports of services declined 1.1% to $17.7 billion, while imports of services were down 0.4% to $18.5 billion.
Securities statistics, fourth quarter 2024
Canadian governments and corporations borrowed a net $47.0 billion in the form of debt securities in the fourth quarter, down from net issuances of $71.3 billion in the previous quarter. Both non-financial corporations and financial corporations reduced their borrowing activity, while government net issuances rose in the quarter.
Farm Product Price Index, December 2024
In December, the Farm Product Price Index fell 1.2% compared with the same month a year earlier. The decline was mainly attributable to decreases in the grains and oilseeds indexes, which offset gains in the livestock and animal products index.
Stocks of frozen and chilled meats, January 1, 2025
Stocks of frozen and chilled meats in cold storage facilities totalled 134 689 tonnes as of January 1, 2025, a 6.2% increase compared with October 1, 2024. On an annual basis, this represented an increase of 5.2% from January 1, 2024.
