Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, August 2025
The number of employees receiving pay and benefits from their employer—measured as “payroll employment” in the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours—was little changed (+3,300; +0.0%) in August, following an increase of 25,600 (+0.1%) in July. On a year-over-year basis, payroll employment was up 31,500 (+0.2%) in August 2025.

Major Canadian airlines flew 8.1 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in August, down 3.8% from August 2024.

Oilseed processors crushed 1.0 million tonnes of canola in September, up 16.1% from August and 8.0% from September 2024. Oil production reached 425.3 thousand tonnes in September 2025, while meal production totalled 589.7 thousand tonnes.

Canadian manufacturers produced 1.1 billion cigarettes in September 2025, up 39.1% from August 2025. Cigarette production was 2.8% lower compared with September 2024.
