Consumer Price Index, November 2023
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3.1% on a year-over-year basis in November, matching the 3.1% increase in October. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.3% in November.
Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, November 2023
The Industrial Product Price Index fell 0.4% month over month in November and was 2.3% lower than in November 2022. The Raw Materials Price Index decreased 4.2% on a monthly basis in November and fell 4.6% year over year.
Canada’s population estimates, third quarter 2023
Canada’s population was estimated at 40,528,396 on October 1, 2023, an increase of 430,635 people (+1.1%) from July 1. This was the highest population growth rate in any quarter since the second quarter of 1957 (+1.2%), when Canada’s population grew by 198,000 people. At the time, Canada’s population was 16.7 million people, and this rapid population growth resulted from the high number of births during the post-war baby boom and high immigration of refugees following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956.
Monthly credit aggregates, October 2023
In October, the total credit liabilities of households increased $8.2 billion (+0.3%) to reach $2,896.4 billion. Real estate secured debt, composed of both mortgage debt and home equity lines of credit, grew $7.0 billion (+0.3%). Household mortgage debt rose $7.1 billion (+0.3% on a monthly basis; +4.0% on an annualized basis) in October, a small acceleration in growth compared with September (+3.5% on an annualized basis).
Monthly civil aviation statistics, October 2023
Major Canadian airlines carried 6.5 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in October, up 9.0% from the same month in 2022.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major and select small airports, October 2023
In October, Canada’s major and select small airports recorded a total of 474,837 aircraft movements. This was down 1.6% from October 2022, representing the fourth year-over-year decline in the last five months.
Student pathways through postsecondary education, 2011 to 2021
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing data related to the postsecondary education pathways of college and university students (entry cohorts from 2011 to 2021). This release includes information on the proportion of postsecondary students remaining enrolled from one academic year to another (persistence rates) and the proportion of students graduating (graduation rates). Information is available by educational qualification, field of study, age group, gender, and status of student in Canada. Data are available at the national, provincial and territorial levels.
Monthly Mineral Production Survey, October 2023
Data from the Monthly Mineral Production Survey and the Monthly Survey of Smelters and Metal Refineries are now available for October.
Early learning and child care: data tables
Data on the number of children aged 0 to 5 and 6 to 12, the number of child care workers, and the number of children with employed mothers and with all parents employed from the 2019 to 2022 Labour Force Survey and the 2021 Census of Population are now available.
