Activities of multinational enterprises in Canada and abroad, 2023 (actual) and 2024 (preliminary)
In 2024, multinational enterprises accounted for over one in three jobs (36.3%), nearly two-thirds (64.6%) of capital investment and the vast majority of merchandise exports (85.1%) within the Canadian corporate sector. Outside of Canada, the value of assets held at Canadian majority-owned affiliates abroad rose 3.5% to $9.2 trillion.
Environmental taxes in Canada, 2022
Total environmental taxes generated in Canada rose 7.8% year over year to $33.3 billion in 2022. The increase in total environmental taxes was attributable to higher energy taxes (+6.6%), which was driven by a growth in the carbon tax (+21.6%) from 2021 to 2022.
Re-contact with police among accused persons living in rural areas of the Canadian provinces, 2014 to 2023
Among a cohort of individuals who had contact with police as an accused person in 2014, two-thirds (67%) of those living in rural areas of the provinces had re-contact with police during the nine-year follow-up period.
