Police-reported crime statistics in Canada, 2024
The police-reported Crime Severity Index (CSI) decreased 4% in 2024, following three consecutive years of increases. This marked the second annual decrease in a decade, with the other decline coinciding with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In 2024, the Non-violent CSI (-6%) and, to a lesser extent, the Violent CSI (-1%), decreased.
