Job vacancies, first quarter 2024
Job vacancies fell by 24,300 (-3.6%) to 648,600 in the first quarter, marking the seventh consecutive quarterly decline from the record high of 983,600 reached in the second quarter of 2022.

According to the most recent data from the Survey Series on People and their Communities, in April 2024, slightly over 3 in 10 Canadians (31%) found it difficult to meet their financial needs in terms of transportation, housing, food, clothing and other necessary expenses in the past 12 months.
Consumer Price Index: New basket weights, 2024 update
Updated basket weights for the goods and services in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), representing consumer spending patterns in 2023, are now available. The 2023 basket will combine expenditure data from the Household Final Consumption Expenditures, the Survey of Household Spending and alternative data sources to account for shifts in spending.
Urban public transit, April 2024
In April, Canada’s urban transit ridership reached 131.6 million trips—recovering 83.7% of its April 2019 level, pre-COVID-19 pandemic—the highest recovery rate to date.
