Study: Job displacement and job types over the last four decades
The Canadian labour market has experienced important changes over the last four decades, the most recent one being triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, Statistics Canada releases two studies that shed light on several of these labour market developments.
Trafficking in persons in Canada, 2018
In 2018, the number of human trafficking cases reported to police in Canada declined for the first time since 2010, from 348 incidents in 2017 to 315 in 2018. In the past decade, there have been more than 1,700 incidents of human trafficking reported by Canadian police services, and almost all of the victims were women or girls.
Travel between Canada and other countries, April 2020
April marked the first full month of border restrictions, which brought international travel to and from Canada to a virtual stop. Overall, international travel was down significantly in April 2020 compared with April 2019.
Study: Indigenous people and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic
A new study using a recent Statistics Canada crowdsourcing data collection initiative provides insights on some of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of Indigenous participants, with women being particularly affected.
Asphalt roofing material, March and April 2020
Shipments of asphalt shingles totalled 1.9 million metric bundles in April, down 40.0% from the previous month, and 44.1% lower compared with April 2019.
Annual Survey of Manufacturing and Logging Industries: Raw materials purchased or used, 2018
Data for 2017 (revised) and 2018 on the value of raw materials purchased and used by the manufacturing industry as a whole, and by the logging industry are now available upon request for Canada, the provinces and territories.
