Farm income, 2023 (revised data)

Realized net income for Canadian farmers rose 13.7% to $13.6 billion in 2023, as growth in receipts more than offset an increase in expenses. The gain in 2023 followed a 5.3% decline in 2022 and a 71.0% increase in 2021. Excluding cannabis, realized net income in 2023 was up 11.0% to $13.6 billion.

Aquaculture, 2023

In 2023, sales of Canadian aquaculture products and services decreased 4.7% compared with 2022 to $1.3 billion, while product expenses declined 3.0%. Aquaculture sales in British Columbia were down 35.9%, while sales in the Atlantic provinces increased 68.8%.

Farm cash receipts, January to September 2024

Farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers totalled $70.6 billion for the first three quarters of 2024, down 3.0% (-$2.2 billion) from the same period in 2023. Receipts for crops (-$3.8 billion) and program payments (-$51.2 million) fell, while receipts for livestock (+$1.7 billion) rose.

In September, aircraft movements at Canada’s major and select small airports totalled 521,288, up 2.3% from September 2023. Itinerant movements increased 1.1% year over year to 364,689 in September 2024 while local movements rose 5.3% to 156,599.

Wholesale trade: Early indicator, October 2024

Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for October. The advance results for October indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) rose 0.5%. The increase partly reflects higher sales in the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories subsector.
