Travel between Canada and other countries, February 2020
In late January, a Canadian resident who returned to Toronto from Wuhan, China, became Canada’s first documented case of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). Although there were only 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 by the end of February, early indications of the potential impact of the virus on international travel were already evident.
Railway carloadings, February 2020
Canadian railways transported 27.5 million tonnes of freight in February, an increase of 5.8% over February 2019.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major airports, February 2020
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canadian government restricted flights between Canada and China in late January. In February, traffic between the two countries dropped by 49.8%, to 385 takeoffs and landings from 767 in February 2019. Flights between China and Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario were down 56.4% while those between China and Vancouver International, British Columbia were down 41.8%.

A revised set of preliminary data on the number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reported by the provincial and territorial health authorities to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is now available. The set covers the period from January 15 to April 27, 2020.
