Households were less wealthy in the third quarter as their net worth—the value of all assets minus all liabilities—shrank $301.2 billion (-1.8%) to $16,168.3 billion.

Environmental taxes in Canada, 2020

In the period from 2010 to 2020, governments worldwide launched more initiatives to fight climate change, build resilience to the changing climate and drive economic growth. In Canada, one of these initiatives was the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, which was implemented in 2019. This act established the framework for the federal carbon pollution pricing system. The revenue governments collected from these environmental taxes is reflected in the environmental tax statistics published today for the years 2019 and 2020.

Pension Satellite Account, 2022

Data on the Pension Satellite Account (PSA) are now available for 2022. These data tables will no longer be produced by Statistics Canada, as some data contained within this account are freely available from other sources, while other data elements required significant resources to address data gaps for reporting purposes. Statistics Canada is focusing on the social insurance pension schemes table published by the OECD, which contains information similar to that contained in the PSA. Data from this Annual National Accounts table can be found on the web page. Data can be found in other Statistics Canada sources including the National Balance Sheet Accounts, Financial Flow Accounts and the Current and capital accounts.

Census of Environment: Resource-based communities, 2016 and 2021

In 2021, close to 1% of the Canadian population was living in resource-based communities, that is, communities with the highest contribution from a resource industry (agriculture, forestry or fishing) to their economic base. Renewable resources from neighbouring ecosystems, such as fish, wood and agricultural biomass, are particularly important to these communities. Therefore, the people who live and work in these communities depend more directly on these ecosystem resources than the general population, which can also make them more vulnerable to ecosystem changes.

Employer pension plans (trusteed pension funds), second quarter 2023

The second quarter saw the market value of assets held by Canadian trusteed pension funds continue to hover around the $2.2 trillion mark. It fell by $4.8 billion, or 0.2%, from the previous quarter. Year over year, the market value of assets was up by 5.1%, or $106.9 billion.
