The total value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities plummeted 17.1% to $6.0 billion in April.
Canadians’ mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic
Almost one-quarter of the crowdsource participants (24%) reported fair or poor mental health, 31% reported good mental health, and nearly half (46%) reported very good or excellent mental health.
Annual retail trade, 2018
Retail customers spent $654.1 billion at Canadian store and non-store retailers in 2018, leading to a 3.9% increase in operating revenue for the retail trade industry over the previous year. This rise was largely attributable to higher prices. In 2018, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.3%, the largest upswing since 2011.
Railway carloadings, March 2020
COVID-19 had a substantial impact on manufacturing sales in March, which fell to their lowest level since June 2016. During the same period, the report on international merchandise trade highlighted the early impact of COVID-19 on manufacturers in North America. Despite these declines, in March, 33.2 million tonnes of merchandise travelled on Canadian railways, up 4.7% compared with the same month in 2019.
