The prevalence of overweight and obesity is on the rise in Canada: New results from the Canadian Health Measures Survey, 2022 to 2024
New results from the Canadian Health Measures Survey (covering the period from 2022 to 2024) show that over two-thirds of adults in Canada are classified as overweight or having obesity, with obesity rising most among young adults. Nearly half of adults also have abdominal obesity, a key health risk. Among children and youth, rates remain stable but still affect nearly one in three.
Health region peer groups, 2024
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing the publication “Health Region Peer Groups: Working paper, 2024.” This paper presents the classification of the 2024 health regions into peer groups based on similar socioeconomic determinants of health, such as low-income prevalence and unemployment rate. This classification covers all provinces and territories.
Consumer goods rental sector, 2024
Following two consecutive years of double-digit growth in total operating revenues, the consumer goods rental and general rental centres industry groups experienced a deceleration in 2024, with revenues rising by 2.5% to $3.9 billion. Operating expenses mirrored this growth, increasing by 2.5% to $3.1 billion, while the operating profit margin was unchanged at 21.2%.
