TNDC Appoints General Manager Heavy Construction

Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Phil Simmonds to the position of General Manager Heavy Construction. Phil brings solid technical and operational skills, qualifications and experience in mine engineering, civil engineering, production supervision and management. This experience is directly applicable to the industries that TNDC serves. Phil’s career includes positions in dam and highway construction, with a focus on production and efficiency.

Phil joins TNDC from Centerra Gold Inc. where he provided technical mine engineering services at Mount Milligan Mine, responsible for quality control and ensuring the tailings dam was built correctly and to specification. Previously, he held positions with Brocor Construction Ltd. focussing on complex highway construction and the Meikle Wind Project, Metro Surveys as Survey Manager for the Forrest Kerr Hydroelectric Project, and IDL Projects as Senior Engineering Surveyor/Foreman for the Quality Wind Project. Phil has also held senior positions with other mining companies in western Canada.

Phil’s qualifications include an Engineering Design Technologist Diploma, as well as certifications in Project Management, Mining and Mineral Processing, Professional Supervisor, Shiftboss (Open Pit Mines) and Surface Mine Rescue.

As General Manager Heavy Construction, Phil will manage operations, contracts and clients across TNDC’s projects and sites, including Red Chris Mine, drive operational and administrative improvements and have a key role in growing TNDC’s heavy construction business. Reporting to Peter Arendt, CEO of TNDC, Phil will assume the position beginning January 8, 2019 and will become the point of contact for all heavy construction matters.

Phil will assume the responsibilities of Mr. Hankin Asp, who is leaving TNDC on February 2, 2019. TNDC thanks Hankin for his many years of service and contributions and wishes him continued success in his future endeavours.
