Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) is excited to release a new video profiling its groundbreaking Tahltan Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Training Program.
The Tahltan Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Training Program is a multi-faceted training program that builds a bridge between Tahltans and industry shortages, by combining training in Tahltan Territory with on-the-job practical work experience. This innovative program includes drivers license support, HEO mentor training, and HEO development.
Launched in 2023, TNDC’s Tahltan HEO Training Program has had a profound impact on the lives of several Tahltans. While developed for all Tahltans – both female and male – year 2 of the Program wrapped up another successful year in May, marking a notable milestone, with 100% female cohorts in both level 1 and level 2 programs.
“TNDC’s Tahltan HEO Training Program has filled an industry gap, addressing skill shortages within the region while also providing on-the-job practical work experience to set participants up for success. This innovative program reinforces TNDC’s dedication to building the capacity of the Tahltan Nation, while also empowering Tahltan women in the workforce. We are immensely thankful for our funders and partners, whose shared commitment is pivotal in advancing the success of our HEO Training Program. The invaluable support and collaboration of these partners are instrumental; notably, the realization of this program would be unattainable without the crucial contribution of Newmont and Finning.” Colleen Cashin, Vice President of People and Corporate Culture.
