Training partnership – Northern News

KIRKLAND LAKE – A partnership between Northern College, Primero Mining Corp and Wahgoshig First Nation will result in First Nation people receiving underground mining training not far from their reserve.

The partnership will see two deliveries of Northern College’s Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program being offered at Primero’s Black Fox Complex just outside of Matheson and close to Wahgoshig Reserve. Each offering of the course will be to six students from Wahgohshig First Nation.

“At Northern College, we are driven by our commitment to increasing access to educational opportunities for members of indigenous people,” said Christine Heavens, Executive Director, Community, Business Development and Employment Services Northern College. “That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Wahgoshig First Nation and Primero to increase access to our world-renowned common core training.”
