Travel Grants available to delegates from North America for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples

Press Release – The Indigenous Global Coordinating Group (GCG) has travel grants available for individuals who have registered on the CSO-NET website for the high level plenary meeting of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to be known as the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (HLPM/WCIP) and who have received a delegate accreditation letter from the Office of the President of the General Assembly. The travel grant includes economy airfare, shared accommodations, and per diem.

Interested delegates should submit a cover letter indicating name, Indigenous affiliation, Nation/Organization that you are authorized to represent, and a brief statement of involvement in HLPM/WCIP preparatory activities and UN mechanisms. A copy of your delegate accreditation letter from the Office of the President of the General Assembly should also be attached. These documents must be emailed to northamerica@wcip2014.org by 5 PM EST, Monday, 25 August 2014. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Criteria:

  • Must be registered on the CSO-NET website for the HLPM/WCIP and have received a delegate accreditation letter from the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
  • Must be Indigenous and be supported by an Indigenous organization or Indigenous Peoples nation/tribe/clan/community/group.
  • Able to attend the HLPM/WCIP on Monday, 22 September and Tuesday, 23 September as well as the GCG preparatory meeting on Sunday, 21 September in New York.
  • Confirm that you are not receiving financial support from any other funding source to cover travel expenses for the HLPM/WCIP.
  • Not employed by local, state or federal government (does not apply to Tribal governments).

Selection of delegates will be made taking into consideration regional representation, age, gender, representational roles, experience in UN mechanisms, and involvement with the HLPM/WCIP preparatory processes, including attendance to the Global Indigenous Preparatory Conference in Alta, Norway.
