Westbank First Nation investigating alleged improper land sale, implementing number of reforms – KelownaNow

Westbank First Nation is implementing a series of changes to it’s self-governance framework and policies following an independent review into the 2021 sale of a property in Peachland for less than a third of its assessed value.

In a 73-page report prepared by former BC judge Marion Buller, the alleged sale deprived Westbank First Nation (WFN) members of millions of dollars.

Buller’s report also “found governance gaps and practices that needed to be addressed immediately.”

WFN chief Chris Derickson explained that the council decided to come forward with this issue as soon as possible explaining that WFN members deserve accountability, transparency and a government that protects their interests.
