Natsiq Kango was born in a camp along Frobisher Bay, near modern-day Iqaluit, in 1956.
She contracted tuberculosis when she was an infant and was sent to a sanatorium down south, until she was four years old.
“When I came back, I did not have my language. English became my first language. But as the time goes on, then I started to speak my mother tongue again,” Kango said.
