A new look for Pointe-à-John dock facilities

The Government of Canada lends financial assistance to the Municipality of Bergeronnes and the Essipit Innu First Nation

October 10, 2014 – Les Bergeronnes, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, joins the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, in underscoring the progress of work on the Pointe-à-John dock. Unable to attend, they welcome the inauguration of the work completed to date.

Funding from the Government of Canada totals $1,342,000, of which $750,000 was granted in the form of a non-repayable contribution through CED’s Temporary Initiative for the Strengthening of Quebec’s Forest Economies (TISQFE) and $592,000 was awarded through Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s Community Economic Opportunities Program.

• The project involved reconstruction of the dock, boat launch, boardwalk and belvedere.
• Les Bergeronnes and the Essipit Innu First Nation will jointly manage the facilities that will diversify the economic base, primarily focused on wood harvesting and processing.
• The objective of this collaboration is to develop the site, which will thereby become an engine of Haute-Côte-Nord tourism development.
