School to mix Alberta’s education curriculum with Indigenous culture and language
Alberta’s newest Indigenous-led charter school opened its doors this week.
The Roots of Resilience Charter School in Drayton Valley, Alta., located 145 kilometres southwest of Edmonton, welcomed 73 new students on Tuesday.
Its founder and principal, Charlene Bearhead, said the K-12 school is meant to provide both Indigenous and non–Indigenous students with the ability to attend classes that blend First Nation and Métis culture and language with Alberta’s public school curriculum.
