August newsletter: Ombudsman shares value proposition with municipalities and presents Good Governance Award at AMO conference, and more – Ontario Ombudsman

On August 19 at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa, Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé gave a lunchtime address to hundreds of delegates, entitled “The Ombudsman and Municipalities: Advancing Good Governance, Fairness and Accountability at the Local Level”, highlighting how our we help municipalities provide fair, equitable service to the public.

He noted that it’s been almost a decade since his jurisdiction was extended to include municipalities, and in that time, we’ve handled nearly 30,000 complaints and inquiries about them – only six of which have resulted in a formal investigation.

“This speaks to the success we have had in resolving complaints and misunderstandings between residents and municipalities efficiently and effectively, and reflects the overwhelming co-operation we receive from you and your staff,” he told the council members and staff in attendance.
