Business groups in B.C. put a positive spin on the recent Supreme Court ruling on aboriginal title, knowing they will need aboriginal sanction for much of their future activity.
So they crooned about benefits of greater certainty that will flow from the decision.
But in the privacy of their boardrooms they must be deeply worried about the new requirements for doing business in B.C.
That worry is justified, according to a study released Thursday by the Fraser Institute’s Centre for Aboriginal Policy Studies.
Written in the form of a bulletin and titled A Real Game Changer, the report written by Ravina Bains predicts the ruling will result in stalled treaty negotiations with B.C. aboriginals, as well as greater expense and uncertainty for economic development.
