Imports exceed the output from the new Site C dam
In his latest warning, Barry Penner, chair of the BC-based Energy Futures Institute, says BC imported more electricity in 2025 than the Site C power dam can generate.
“So even with Site C coming on in the middle of last summer, we still ended up importing more than the entire Site C dam would produce in a typical year if we had normal water.
“And that’s part of the story here: We haven’t had normal water flows in British Columbia for three or four years now. And this winter is not looking very encouraging either. . . . We’re shaping up to have a very disappointing snowpack again this year.”
