Mining company to provide training, job opportunities
International mining giant BHP Billiton signed agreements with the Fishing Lake and Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nations today.
The agreement focuses on developing skills for First Nations people to work for the company, as well as making sure First Nations businesses are ready to apply for contracts with the company.
“We believe in participating in the activities and the interest of the communities where we work,” said Alex Archila, asset president for BHP Billiton’s potash operations.
Archila said the agreement is wide-ranging and was developed over three to four years of negotiations.
