A forest management corporation has obtained FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) forest management and chain of custody certification for the Big Pic Forest in northwestern Ontario.
The Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation (NFMC) announced it secured the certification on Sept. 17.
It’s considered a milestone for the Crown agency as the certification will make the wood harvested on the Big Pic Forest more attractive for its partnering mills to sell product to wider markets.
In a news release, NFMC board chair Daryl Skworchinski said obtaining the certification “clearly demonstrates our commitment to manage our forests sustainably, support our industry partners, and help facilitate local community and First Nation economic development.”
