On May 21, 2026, MLT Aikins lawyer Billie Fortier will be speaking at the Canadian Energy Law Foundation’s (CELF) Aboriginal and Energy Law Seminar in Vancouver, British Columbia. Billie will be joined at the Seminar by MLT Aikins lawyer Saul Joseph, who served on the planning committee for the event.
Billie will be part of Rights and Resources: Legal Developments in Energy and Aboriginal Rights, Consent and Title in Canada alongside fellow panellists Jared Enns (Cassels Brock & Blackwell) and Lisa C. Fong, K.C. (Ng Ariss Fong, Lawyers). The session will facilitate in-depth conversation on how recent legal developments in Aboriginal title and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) are reshaping the landscape for energy projects in western Canada. Attendees gain valuable insights into how these changes influence regulatory approval processes for energy projects in B.C. and across Canada, as well as a clearer understanding of how Aboriginal rights, title and agreements are addressed within these evolving frameworks.
