Britco Donates Library Building to Nooaitch Indian Band

Press Releases

MERRITT, BC (October 5, 2015) – Nooaitch Indian Band celebrated the grand opening of their new community library on Saturday October 3, 2015, alongside Britco, a Langley-based modular building company responsible for donating the building.

“The Nooaitch Indian Band appreciates Britco’s generous contribution to the creation of our new library and learning center. Britco is a valued partner and we look forward to a continuing relationship which benefits both of our organizations”, said Chief Marcel Shackelly of the Nooaitch Indian Band.

In partnership with the Government House Foundation and Rotary International, Britco’s Community Literacy Initiative provides library facilities to remote First Nations communities throughout BC.

“At Britco, we always look forward to working with the Government House Foundation and Rotary International on projects like these,” said Obie Erickson, President of Britco. “It’s a great way for us to utilize our strengths – building and transforming buildings – while giving back to remote BC First Nations communities.”

The building was originally used at the 2015 Canada Winter Games held earlier this year in Prince George and was recently transformed by Britco into the library building it is today.

“The fact that Britco constructs these buildings for one purpose and then transforms and delivers the same buildings to remote communities for use as a library is a huge help to the program,” said Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. “We’re pleased that they continue to participate in community literacy initiatives like these.”

Britco has committed to donate and transform another building, from the 2015 Canada Winter Games, into a library for a remote First Nations community in 2016.
