Burlington budget committee denies Indigenous adviser funding, wants further study – Inside Halton

Two proposals to fund different options were not approved for 2026 budget.

Burlington staff are reviewing options for Indigenous advisory services after city councillors rejected adding immediate funding for a new adviser or the Mayor’s Indigenous Advisory Circle to the 2026 budget.

A city spokesperson said the process to determine next steps is underway following the budget committee’s Nov. 24 meeting.

Ward 2 Coun. Lisa Kearns had proposed adding $60,000 to the 2026 budget to hire a part-time Indigenous adviser, while Mayor Marianne Meed Ward proposed adding $100,000 for Indigenous advisory services from her Indigenous Advisory Circle.
