CAPP reaction to the 2025 Federal Budget and Climate Competitiveness Strategy

Press Release

“CAPP continues to support the federal government’s focus on economic investment and growth. Canada’s oil and natural gas industry is uniquely positioned to deploy capital at the scale and speed required to advance the federal government’s major priorities over the next four years—driving economic transformation, creating jobs, and helping ease the affordability crisis for Canadians. The 2025 budget sends positive signals to oil and natural gas producers, such as enhanced fiscal measures to stimulate investment, an extension of the carbon capture and LNG investment tax credits, and a renewed commitment to double the Indigenous loan guarantee program. These changes are steps toward increasing the competitiveness of Canadian businesses.

However, greater clarity is still needed on the policy reset required to increase investment in Canada’s oil and natural gas sector and realize our national ambition to become a global energy superpower. In particular, further details are needed on the regulatory framework that will align economic and climate objectives, encourage new investment in major projects, and ensure Canada remains competitive in the global marketplace.

We look forward to continuing to work with the federal and provincial governments to develop pragmatic policy solutions, such as for the proposed methane regulations, to help build investor confidence and position Canada to become the strongest economy in the G7.”
