The Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP), in partnership with Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication and the School of Public Policy and Administration in the Faculty of Public Affairs, will host the workshop Understanding the Indian Act. The panel event will seek to answer questions and build knowledge of the 141-year-old act.
When: Friday, April 28, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: IDRC/CRDI, David Hopper A Room, 8th floor, 150 Kent Street, Ottawa
Media are invited to attend the event. Enrolment is limited and media registration is required in advance.
With the federal government announcing that it will review laws and policies related to Indigenous people, Canada’s Indian Act will be a key part of any review. The IRPP workshop will discuss the complex and reviled act, its colonial history and present-day function, as well as the possibility of replacing it in order to better support a nation-to-nation relationship.
