What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
After clocking in three days on the high-level diplomatic circuit that accompanies the opening week of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Mark Carney will be back in his front-and-centre seat when the curtain rises on the House of Commons this afternoon, according to his office, where he’ll undoubtedly face a fresh wave of calls to remove embattled Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree from his current role in the wake of that now infamous recording, in which Anandasangaree “appeared to question the effectiveness of the Liberals’ gun buyback program,” as CBC News reports.
Before boarding his flight back to Ottawa, however, Carney has one more UN event on his agenda — namely, a morning speech at the inaugural Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy (9 a.m.) — as well as a planned tête-à-tête with his Jamaican counterpart, Andrew Holness.
