Carney set to unveil plan to ‘transform’ auto manufacturing sector in Vaughan – iPolitics

A little less than a year after hitting pause on the controversial electric vehicle sales mandate introduced by his predecessor, Prime Minister Mark Carney is heading to Vaughan, Ont., to unveil what his office is billing as a bid to “transform Canada’s auto manufacturing sector for the future” that, according to Canadian Press, will officially “scrap” the EV sales mandate “in favour of new vehicle emissions standards,” reinstate the “popular” EV rebate program, “which was halted last year when it ran out of money” and launch a new “EV infrastructure fund,” the wire service reports.

The announcement will be made at an unnamed “auto parts manufacturing facility,” as per his itinerary. (10 a.m.)
