What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
After weeks of increasingly politically-charged speculation over what is expected to be a sweeping new deal between the federal government and the province of Alberta that, among other rumoured provisions, could clear the way for the construction of a new pipeline through northern British Columbia, Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to unveil what his official itinerary describes as “a framework to strengthen energy collaboration and build a stronger, more competitive, and more sustainable economy” in Calgary later today.
According to his office, following a brief one-on-one chat between the two leaders, Carney will join Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for a “signing ceremony” at an unspecified location somewhere in the city, (9:50 a.m. MT).
