After kicking off his first post-election trek to the Northwest Territories with a visit to his birthplace of Fort Smith — where, as Cabin Radio reports, his itinerary included stops at a local community centre to “indulge in some baking and smoothie creation with town children” and lunch at a neighbourhood pizzeria, where he was greeted by “a photo on the wall of his last visit” and a menu that included a pie “renamed in his honour,” as well as a briefing on the current wildfire season — Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to co-chair a meeting of the Inuit — Crown Partnership Committee in Inuvik.
As per the agenda released by his office, Carney will join Inuit leaders, including his co-chair, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president Natan Obed, for a pre-summit “family photo,” and deliver on-camera opening remarks before the session moves behind closed doors for the rest of the day.
