What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
After jetting back from his whirlwind one-day trip to Egypt yesterday afternoon, Prime Minister Mark Carney is back on the clock today, according to his itinerary, which notes that he’ll be convening a “virtual” meeting with his front bench team this morning. (10:30 a.m.)
One item that’s all but guaranteed to be on the agenda: Yesterday’s announcement by global automaker Stellantis, which, as iPolitics reported last night, has served notice of its intention to “invest $13 billion to expand production in the United States market,” including shifting Jeep production originally slated for the Brampton assembly plant to Illinois — a move that has prompted the union representing Canadian autoworkers to call on the government to “use Canada’s leverage to fight for auto jobs,” as per a statement released by Unifor president Lana Payne last night.
