Carney to face MPs, First Nations chief summit as budget debate continues – iPolitics

After filling the unexpected vacancy in his front bench lineup with veteran Team Trudeau cabinet lead Marc Miller — who, as iPolitics reported yesterday, will take on the Canadian identity and culture files previously held by Steven Guilbeault, who resigned from the ministry last week over his opposition to the newly-inked deal with Alberta — Prime Minister Mark Carney will be back in his front-and-centre seat in the chamber this afternoon, which will mark the first time that he has faced his cross-aisle adversaries since the agreement that triggered Guilbeault’s abrupt departure was unveiled in Calgary last week.

He’s also expected to address delegates at the Assembly of First Nations Special Chiefs Assembly this afternoon, where, as The Globe and Mail notes, “issues around consultation and major projects are expected to top the agenda.” (4 p.m.)
