Recognizing the need for housing in Indigenous communities, Cenovus Energy is expanding its Indigenous Housing Initiative to include Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Kikino Métis Settlement, and Goodfish (Whitefish) Lake First Nation.
LAKELAND – New homes are coming to Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Kikino Métis Settlement, and Goodfish (Whitefish) Lake First Nation thanks to the expansion of Cenovus Energy’s Indigenous Housing Initiative.
Initially started in 2020 as a pilot project committing $50 million over five years, the program has been tweaked and will now be an “ongoing community investment with no firm end date,” according to Dustin Meek, the manager of Indigenous Business Development and Housing at Cenovus. He said Cenovus is committing $8 million per year to the program going forward.
