Chairperson, Inuvialuit Development Corporation

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation is seeking applications for Chairperson, Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC).

This position is responsible for leading the IDC board and subsidiaries, ensuring that good governance practices are in place and observed.  The Chairperson will be familiar with and committed to fulfilling the goals of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement and the mandate and strategic objectives of the Inuvialuit Development Corporation while ensuring a productive relationship occurs between Board and management.

Representing the Inuvialuit Development Corporation, the Chairperson is the public face of IDC and its chief communicator to its shareholder (IRC), beneficiaries, the business community and within community, regional and national forums.

As a leader in carrying out the IDC mandate, the Chairperson should have the following attributes:

  • Leadership – Strong proven history of leadership, including capacity building and people management.
  • Development and Execution of a Business Plan – IDC continues to transform and is growing rapidly, the IDC Chair should have strong business and financial acumen, understand the strategic direction, and have a track record of generating profits and executing on large scale business transformations.
  • Connections and Politics – Many of IDC’s northern contracts come from government, and the IDC Chair should have the connections and approach to advance these projects successfully. The leader will also need to work collaboratively with local contractors to maximise the community’s success and should have experience working with these individuals.
  • Local Knowledge – IDC would like to enhance communications with our communities and beneficiaries. The IDC Chair should be experienced in community consultations, have a collaborative approach to business, and build strong reporting systems to ensure the IRC Board and the ISR communities are always well informed.
  • Other skills – The IDC Chair should have experience running a board meeting, with effective governance, and ideally some construction experience to ensure IDCC grows successfully. The IDC Chair must also be willing to travel within the region at least twice per year to gather local input.

The IDC Chair holds this appointment on a full-time basis at the pleasure of the IRC Board for a term of three (3) years.  The position is based at the Inuvialuit Corporate Centre in Inuvik.  Upon appointment, a comprehensive salary and benefits package is established. The IDC Director of Business Development reports to this position.
